Gdańsk, 3 Maja — Project

Where precision matters — MIDO

Using the proprietary MIDO gravity drilling system, the bore was carried out from existing manholes without the need for launch pits.
The guidance system, accurate to the millimetre, enabled a safe passage through variable ground conditions — from clays to urban fill containing stones, bricks and legacy utilities.

As a result:

  1. the road surface remained intact,
  2. vehicular and pedestrian traffic continued without changes,
  3. the entire operation was completed in a single day.

This example demonstrates how trenchless technology can combine efficiency with consideration for the environment.

Modernity and tradition — a common feature of Gdańsk

Gdańsk has a long history of integrating its past with modern development.
That applies to both architecture and infrastructure.
As historic buildings in the Old Town have endured, modern techniques — such as the MIDO system used here — allow underground networks to be developed safely, precisely and without visible impact at street level.

Project parameters:

  1. Location: Gdańsk, ul. 3 Maja (city centre, near PKP and PKS stations)
  2. Scope: stormwater sewer connection + rehabilitation
  3. Technology: MIDO gravity drilling rig
  4. Bore length: 9.5 m
  5. Diameter: Ø280 mm
  6. Manholes: Ø1000 / Ø1200
  7. Duration: 1 day
  8. Outcome: no surface intervention, traffic and pedestrian flow maintained, precise connection without conflicts with existing infrastructure

MIDO — technology that minimises urban disruption

Gravity drilling allows work in locations where conventional methods would require excavation, traffic stoppages, dismantling and reinstatement.
It enables city upgrades with minimal disruption — environmentally conscious, fast and controlled.
