The MSWiA Hospital in Warsaw has played a key role in the Polish healthcare system for decades.
Established in the 1960s and expanded and modernized through subsequent decades, it is one of the city’s principal medical facilities in terms of patient volume and strategic importance.
The hospital is currently entering a new development phase — an expansion of infrastructure intended to increase capacity and improve patient services.
For this project we completed a specialized task — a trenchless bore under the hospital building that could not be interrupted or in any way affect hospital operations.
50 meters beneath the hospital. No interruption to building operations. No compromises.
Our scope was the execution of a trenchless bore with the following parameters:
length: 50 meters,
pipe diameter: PP Ø225 mm,
from manhole Ø1200 to open excavation,
design gradient: 0.5%,
working depth: 2–4 meters.
The bore was carried out directly beneath the existing MSWiA hospital building, completely non-disruptively and without affecting the facility’s operations.
We used a gravity drilling rig, which enables pipe installation with millimetre-level slope accuracy, even across significant terrain differences and heterogeneous urban ground conditions.
Location with no margin for error
Work under the hospital presented both technical and logistical challenges.
Any stoppage of building operations could have paralyzed the medical facility — which was unacceptable.
Therefore the works had to be carried out:
✔ without noise,
✔ without vibrations,
✔ without intervention to the building structure,
✔ without closing operational areas,
✔ with no impact on building users.
This is precisely why MIDO technology is used in such locations — where conventional methods are not feasible.
Using an open-cut method here would have meant closed entrances, excavated pedestrian routes, a risk of structural disturbance and substantial reinstatement costs.
With MIDO — the work was completed efficiently, safely and fully under control.
Hospital expansion — infrastructure ready for the future.
The bore was executed to serve a new section of the medical facility.
Absolute accuracy was essential — both for the 0.5% gradient and for the bore alignment.
The sanitary connection installed will serve future rooms, wards and technical back-up areas of the hospital — this is the first of several such connections we will deliver.
Every meter of the work under the hospital made use of the full potential of the gravity drilling rig — delicate, precise and reliable.
